Jackie Robinson Day

In hosting their first ever Jackie Robinson Day Celebration, Slyderz Baseball wasn’t sure what promotional avenue was best.

The flier is for the purpose of posting on social media as well as handing out printed copies to students. Since a lot of parents still drive their kids to school on top of their regular commute, we also decided to make a radio spot, to catch them while in the car.

Script: Jackie Robinson Day is right around the corner! Join us in celebrating the first black man in Major League Baseball. Come out to 8000 Diane Lane anytime between ten and five o’clock on April 16th for a day of good games, better food, and an Easter egg hunt. See you there!

Script: Kids in Richmond need access to worthwhile after school programs like Slyderz Baseball. It’s sports and tutoring all in one! Your kids will get help with their homework and their home-runs. Free for kids ages 5-13, find more information at Slyderz, that’s S-L-Y-D-E-R-Z baseball-dot-org.

I founded Slyderz Baseball Inc. in 2018. As a Richmond native I was inspired to give back to my home by creating a safe space for kids to play, learn, and grow.

After spending several years leading various athletic organizations for inner-city youth, I have seen first hand the need for additional resources and support systems.

We believe that youth involvement in sports is not just about creating athletes, but also using its lessons to nurture educational and character development essential for success on and off the field.

Carl’s About Page:

I was born and raised in Richmond. When I was growing up, you could play basketball or football, and that was pretty much it, but when I started as the batboy for the Richmond Braves it opened me up to something new.

It’s important to me that the kids in my community get the chance to play baseball and fall in love with it like I did. A lot of the youth I know are the children and grandchildren of an epidemic that’s still affecting these families today, but I wanna fill those gaps where I can.

This is something nobody did for me when I was younger, so I wanted to do it.
